We usually associate antique-style sanitary ware with the intricate shapes of the upper rim, such as the “8-shape” of ANTALIA Dolomite, the shape of the violin toilet seats as RETRO’ by Kerasan, the toilet seats with the double curve of ELLADE by Hidra. Others follow the iconic rounded lines of the MONTEBIANCO by Pozzi Ginori and its inspired counterparts like ALBANO Vitruvit, LUTEZIA Senesi, PALLADIO Sbordoni and LONDRA Simas.
However, with the recent rise of back-to-wall (flush-to-wall) toilets, the “D-shape” seat has become the standard. How did ceramic manufacturers maintain a classic vintage feel while using a modern upper shape? They focused on the body of the fixture, using levels, steps, and curves that showcase the pinnacle of Made in Italy design.
Calla Series – Ideal Standard

This is the “Classic Lux” series by Ideal Standard. It was the first modern bathroom collection to be both classic and contemporary—essential yet imposing. To match its prestige, the original Calla toilet seat features a custom-designed hinge with a distinctive chrome tube. All available toilet seat variants (including just the original hinge) are available in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
Canova Royal Series – Catalano

One of Catalano’s latest collections, Canova Royal, is a versatile range. It features a modern back-to-wall version and a classic “detached” version with a retro soul. Adorned with delicate moldings and “steps” in the ceramic body, it is a worthy successor to the Calla series. The toilet seat, both in the original version (also soft close) and in the dedicated version (also soft close) can be found in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
Bella Epoque Series – Cesame

Let’s take a step back in time. In our opinion, Cesame’s Bella Epoque paved the way for this style. Cesame’s mastery lay in giving the toilet a retro look by working on the base and the lateral bands. The particularity of the outline can also be found in the carving of the original Belle Epoque toilet seat which you can see at the following link [ clik HERE ]. Several variants for this toilet seat cover are available in the store, including a dedicated version with slow motion hinges at the following link [ clik HERE ]
Fidia Series – Flaminia

Workmanship in the ceramic body is certainly simpler than the series we have just seen, but the style is definitely classic. It is called Fidia and is produced by Flaminia. A WC and its cover very large compared to the standard of the category. we talked about it in the post: ”BIG sanitaryware, large WCs and bidets modern lines and their covers (part 2)” where we have seen sanitary ware and toilet seats that reach lengths of 48/49/50/51 cm, among others ONDA by Hidra, OMEGA by Facis and LAGO by Dolomite. It is exactly this length and the workings and steps in the foot of the sanitary fitting and in the body that give rise to the gentle, rounded shapes that slim down the imposing volumes. Its toilet seat has an adjustable hinge that allows measurements from 48 to 52 cm and can be found in the store at the following link [ clik HERE ]
