Today we explore the historic manufacturers of the toilet seat world—companies that supplied both large-scale plumbing distributors and prestigious ceramic brands. Thanks to their superior construction quality, these products remain a benchmark for bathroom interior professionals and homeowners alike. Each brand created at least one masterpiece of Italian craftsmanship.
FRIGES: A pioneer from Piedmont, Friges was the first company worldwide to invest in polyester resin-coated seats. Their 1980s and 90s production became the gold standard, particularly their version of the CONCA seat for Ideal Standard, which was so perfect that the manufacturer itself used it as a technical reference. (currently still online http://www.friges.it/azienda/).
CARRARA & MATTA: Founded in Turin in 1940, they were innovators in design and materials. They introduced DUROLUX to the market—the first thermosetting material for toilet seats, known for being scratch-resistant, flame-retardant, and exceptionally durable.
ACB CHIECCA: Established in the 1960s near Bergamo, they were famous for their specialized wood-core coating and their signature “American-style” tube hinges. They were the official partner for many leading ceramic sanitaryware brands.
