Tear Drop-Shaped Toilets and Toilet Seats
Today, we’re talking about a specific style of toilet and toilet seat known for its tear drop shape. This design starts narrow at the back and widens toward the front. Over the years, many ceramic companies like Ideal Standard, Cesame, Eos, Pozzi Ginori, and Globo have created this popular style for the bathroom market.
Ideal Standard LIUTO Series
In our opinion, the original model that started this style is the Liuto series from Ideal Standard. We’ve discussed it before in our posts, “Ideal Standard toilet seats and sanitary ware old models (part 1)” and “Older sanitary ware no longer in production. Where can I find the toilet seat? (part 1).” As you can see in the photo, its tear drop shape is perfectly clear—narrow in the back and wider toward the front.
This series was mainly produced in Ideal Standard White (don’t you know the difference between normal white (EU) and Ideal Standard white? Cesame ARETUSINA Series
This was the smaller sibling of the legendary Aretusa series from Cesame, which we covered in the post, “Ceramica Cesame and the big challenge to the big names in the sector. The original toilet seats are still available. (part 1).” The Aretusina perfectly captured Aretusa’s unique shape, but its slightly smaller size enhanced the tear drop effect.

Eos Ceramiche CLIO Series
We previously discussed Eos ceramiche in the post: “EOS Ceramiche (Simca). A market success that ended too quickly. Where can I find the toilet seat?” where we saw theseries: COMPACT, ASTRO, MISTRAL, EDGE, RIACE e PANTHEON. We saved Clio for this discussion because, as you can see in the photo, the toilet perfectly showcases that tear drop shape—narrower at the back than at the front.
