The CONCA Toilet and Toilet Seat, and its “Brothers”

The Iconic Conca Toilet: A Deep Dive into Its Legacy and Lookalikes

We’ve extensively covered the Conca toilet and its toilet seat in previous posts. This WC is so legendary for its shape and features that it truly deserved a detailed analysis. Our post, “The toilet seat CONCA. Find out which product is perfect for the Ideal Standard toilet (the final version)” explored all the essential characteristics of the ideal toilet seat for the Conca pan.

We’ve delved into specific features in these related posts:

These distinctive features left such a profound mark on the bathroom furniture market that all of Ideal Standard’s competitors started offering their own “Conca-style” sanitaryware series! Let’s explore some of these models, which are often mistaken for the Conca toilet but have subtle differences in characteristics or details.

CLIO Toilet by Ceramica Globo

Given the incredible success of the Conca series in the market, many competing companies in the sector took inspiration from its form, which was considered incredibly modern and unique for its time, and sought to challenge the legend. Almost all companies began producing sanitaryware virtually identical in size to the Conca. One of these companies, specifically Ceramica Globo, decided to echo the shape but made a modification to the interaxial distance.

We often hear customers asking for the Conca toilet seat with an 18 cm interaxial distance. It doesn’t exist for the original Conca! However, there is the Clio toilet seat by Globo, which is similar to the Conca but has that specific interaxial distance. Here’s a link to the Globo section in Sintesibagno shop, where you’ll easily find spare parts for the Clio model! [ clik HERE ].

AERO Series by Ideal Standard

Here, we remain within the Ideal Standard family. We can view the Aero as the evolution of the species, the true heir to Conca, also produced by Ideal Standard. In the bathroom industry, this ceramic series was considered the “Lux” version of Conca.

Its larger dimensions and softened angles gave it a unique style. Nevertheless, it’s often mistaken for the Conca WC. It was originally presented with a wrap-around thermosetting toilet seat that gave the sanitaryware a fantastic and very futuristic design (for its time). Unfortunately, this toilet seat, which was always in our catalog, sold out a couple of years ago (in 2017) and is no longer available. Such an important toilet didn’t deserve just any adapted toilet seat, so we created a custom-made version in white polyester-coated wood that perfectly fits the pan. You can see it at the following Sintesibagno link [ clik HERE ].

DUCCIO Series by Ceramiche Senesi

Among the many competitors and imitators of Conca, we’ve selected Duccio. The shape is similar, and the inspiration is clear, but in this case, the master ceramists at Senesi made a small creative effort. The entire back rim isn’t raised; only the points where the toilet seat will be anchored are inclined at 45°. Once the toilet seat is installed, the solution has a beautiful effect, making the toilet seat appear suspended above the WC rim. You can find the toilet seats for the Duccio pan in white and all official colors at the following Sintesibagno link [ clik HERE ].

POLO Sanitaryware by Ceramica Catalano (Rectangular Sanitaryware)

This WC is still often mistaken for the Ideal Standard Conca, but it was actually produced by Catalano and was called Polo. Many customers go to shopping centers, perhaps even showing a photo to an inexperienced assistant, and end up buying a Conca toilet seat. During installation, they realize that the interaxial distance of this toilet is a full 20 cm! To avoid making the wrong purchase, Sintesibagno provided links to the store for the white color [ clik HERE ] and the champagne color [ clik HERE ].

ADDA Series by Facis GSI

We conclude this article with an old, now out-of-production, rectangular series by Facis (today GSI) called Adda. Even among industry professionals today, it’s often mistaken for the Conca series, but upon closer inspection, you can see that while it also has a raised back rim, the toilet seat is fixed on the lower flat part. Therefore, it doesn’t require an angled hinge. You can find Adda toilet seats in both white and champagne colors at the following Sintesibagno link [ clik HERE ].

We’ve begun to explore some of Conca‘s “brothers” and competitors; over time, many more have been produced.
