Toilet Seats for Wall-Hung Toilets
In this post, we’ll begin to explore the world of wall-hung sanitaryware and their corresponding toilet seats. We’ll delve into their origins and how they’ve evolved in bathroom design.
Ideal Standard’s ALA Series: The Pioneer

The Ala suspended series by Ideal Standard is truly a landmark in the history of wall-hung sanitaryware; its introduction marked the beginning of their widespread adoption in bathrooms. While Ideal Standard had made earlier attempts (which we’ll discuss later), the necessary technical infrastructure – like today’s robust combifix frames from companies such as Geberit, Valsir, and Kariba – was not yet available. Installations were cumbersome and difficult for plumbers. It took the convergence of these factors to transform wall-hung toilets into the common and accepted fixture we see in bathrooms today.
The Ala series was launched in the 1980s and remained in Ideal Standard’s catalog until the early 2000s, symbolizing modernity in bathroom design during that era. It was introduced with a very distinctive and unique toilet seat: the lid was narrower than the ring. In our opinion, this design choice aimed to lighten the toilet’s profile, enhancing its “suspended” effect and overall visual lightness. We are still able to offer the original Ala toilet seat, which you can find in Sintesibagno store [ clik HERE ].
Ideal Standard’s MONVAS/SOVAS Series: The Early Large Wall-Hung

Here, we’re looking at a sanitaryware piece from the 1960s and 70s. This was a very large toilet, and we could have included it in our post on “Large sanitaryware and their toilet seat covers” but we’re featuring it here specifically because it was a wall-hung model. Its design was remarkably in line with today’s minimalist aesthetics; only its dimensions are from another era. To give you an idea of its significant size, its toilet seat alone measured a remarkable 49/50 cm long! You can find its toilet seat in the Sintesibagno store [ clik HERE ].
LINK series by Flaminia: A Modern Masterpiece

By the late 1990s and early 2000s, wall-hung toilets began to be considered a “normal” choice. This was the perfect moment for a formal acceleration in design. The market had grown accustomed to rather uniform and somewhat bulky shapes; until then, the mere fact that a toilet was wall-hung was enough to qualify it as modern. Flaminia understood the need for new forms and styles and introduced the Link series – a true masterpiece!
Even today, Link remains among the most beautiful wall-hung sanitaryware in the entire bathroom furnishing world. It was also the first sanitaryware series to be introduced first as a wall-hung model, and then, due to its success, also complemented with a floor-standing version. Toilet seats for these sanitaryware are available in all their variants (original wrap-around, original wrap-around soft-close, polyester-coated wood, and various dedicated versions) [ clik HERE ]. We’ve also created a video about this series and its toilet seat:
Ceramica Catalano’s ZERO Series (ZERO 54 is different from ZERO 50/55)

The Zero series by Catalano has always been considered the primary rival to Link. Initially, the Zero 54 version featured a rear step and had a toilet seat bolt spacing of 18 cm. In more recent versions, known as Zero 50/55, the rear step was eliminated, the cantilevered front fascia was reduced, and, most notably, the bolt spacing was increased to 22 cm (we could have discussed this in our post on unusual toilet seat bolt spacings [ clik HERE ] ).
Important Considerations for Wall-Hung Toilets
Before concluding this post, a clarification: most wall-hung sanitaryware also have a floor-standing variant (with exceptions, such as the Ala series discussed earlier). More often than not, the toilet seat is the same for both versions (again, with exceptions).
