Pozzi Ginori’s Iconic Squared Sanitaryware. Italo/Italica, Square, and Italo Duo, which toilet seat is correct?

Pozzi Ginori’s Iconic Squared Sanitaryware: A Look Back at Italo/Italica, Square, and Italo Duo Toilet Seats

Starting in the 1970s and continuing through the 80s and 90s, Pozzi Ginori dominated the market for squared sanitaryware with two distinct series (one of which had two variations, as we’ll soon see): Italo/Italica and Square (the close-coupled version with a ceramic cistern was later named Italo Duo).

Thanks to these sanitaryware collections, color also made its way into countless bathrooms. Among these, many colors were specifically created by the ceramic house itself, including Ginori Walnut, Oriental Pink, Whisky, Mondrian Grey, and Marine Blue. We’ve previously explored these vibrant palettes in two posts: “Sanitary ware colours. Why is it difficult to find the right colour toilet seat? (part 1)” and “The colours of sanitary wares and toilet seats: green, pink, light blue, blue,brown.. (part 2)“

Pozzi Ginori’s Italica/Italo Series

The Italica series is widely considered the quintessential large-sized sanitaryware. We’ve dedicated an in-depth exploration to it in our post: “Large sanitary wares (old models) and their unobtainalble toilet seats” Its almost rectangular shape and generous dimensions (54/55 cm) necessitate a toilet seat perfectly tailored to the bowl, with measurements of 50×36 cm and a bolt spacing of 15/15.5 cm. You can find the toilet seat for this WC in all its original colors – including champagne (a best-seller), pink, light blue, blue, brown, green, and gray – in the Sintesibagno store [ clik HERE ].

Pozzi Ginori’s SQUARE Series

Often mistaken for Italica due to its very similar rectangular and squared shape, the Square series is notably shorter than Italica by a good 4 to 5 cm. For Pozzi-Ginori, Square represents what Conca signifies for Ideal Standard: an iconic series that symbolized sales success in the 70s, 80s, and even 90s. This rectangular series enjoyed thirty years of well-deserved success, becoming one of the most imitated alongside Conca. When it was first launched, its squared form became the emblem of modern bathrooms. Pozzi Ginori produced this sanitaryware series in all the colors of that era, including champagne (a best-seller), pink, light blue, blue, brown, green, and gray. We’ve created a video to help the many customers looking for Square and Italica toilet seats avoid purchasing the wrong model:

We’ve created a dedicated section in our store for the Square toilet seat, where you can find all the original Pozzi Ginori colors [ clik HERE ].

Pozzi Ginori’s Italo DUO Series

The outline of the Italo Duo series is certainly that of Square, and indeed, it’s often mistaken for that sanitaryware. We’ve previously discussed this in our post: “Sanitary wares and toilet seats with non-standard center distance” which we’ll quote directly here: “This Pozzi Ginori series called Italo Duo is often confused with another series from the ceramic house (SQUARE) because it has the same rectangular shape, but here the distinguishing factor is precisely the bolt spacing: it’s a significant 19/20 cm. We could have included it in the article dedicated to old discontinued rectangular sanitaryware (you can read it [ clik HERE ] ), but we preferred to highlight its non-standard bolt spacing characteristic.” It was produced in various colors, all of which you can find in our store, primarily white [ clik HERE ], champagne [ clik HERE ], and brown [ clik HERE ].

These three discontinued Pozzi Ginori squared series are now out of production. If you need to find a replacement toilet seat for your bowl and can’t identify it, let us do the research for you. Watch the following video to understand the procedure for identifying your toilet seat:
