Cesame Toilet Seats: Aretusa, Bella Epoque, and Erice Series
Ceramica Sanitaria Mediterraneo (Cesame) is a historic sanitary ware company founded in the 1950s by a legendary Brianza nobleman. Until the early 2000s, it was among the largest players in the market, achieving significant market shares in Italy and worldwide (reliable sources indicate distribution in as many as 43 countries) with an incredible array of successful products. So, how did this Sicilian company manage to challenge established brands like Ideal Standard, Dolomite, and Pozzi Ginori?
Cesame‘s success stemmed from its unwavering commitment to product quality (the renowned quality of its ceramic sanitary ware), innovation (the unique and widely imitated shapes of its fixtures), and meticulous attention to detail, including its toilet seats. Original Cesame toilet seats boast unique aesthetic and qualitative characteristics within the bathroom furnishing world. We’ve already explored some Cesame sanitary ware series and their distinctive features in previous articles. For instance, the legendary Cesame Sintesi series was discussed in ” Toilet seats with moulded bumper for toilet bowls with inclined top” The Decò series and its geometric form were covered in “Wc&Toilet seats with octogonal/hexagonal shapes.” The exclusive DAINO color was featured in “COLOURED toilet seats – How NOT to make the wrong choice!” Today, we’ll delve into other Cesame sanitary ware series and their unique toilet seats.
Cesame Aretusa Sanitary Ware
If we had to pick one series to represent the company, it would undoubtedly be Aretusa. It perfectly embodies the Cesame style: a substantial fixture in size, with grand, soft curves. It was a popular choice for customers seeking a luxurious feel for their bathrooms. The original Aretusa toilet seat is also fantastic; to lighten the opulent form of the pan, it was designed with a lid that recesses into the ring and a convenient finger-lift recess for opening. You can view and find it here [ clik HERE ]. At this link [ clik HERE ], you’ll also find the original colored models (amber/champagne, mink/Bahama beige, daino, grey, and pink) and dedicated variations. A final note on the Cesame Aretusa toilet seat: as we discussed in “What is the weelbase in toilet seat?“, some toilet seats do not have the classic 15/16 cm hinge distance. This is precisely the case for Aretusa, which features a hinge distance of 19/20 cm.
Cesame Bella Epoque Series (Retro/Classic Toilet Seats)
This marvelous series, in both name (Bella Epoque) and form, wasn’t included in our “Replacements and replacement of WC seats in CLASSIC/RETRO style” post simply because the upper shape of the sanitary ware is a simple oval. Cesame‘s mastery lay in imbuing the fixture with a retro style by meticulously working on the base and side panels. The distinctive shape is also reflected in the cutout of the original Bella Epoque toilet seat, which you can see at the following link [ clik HERE ]. Multiple variations for this toilet seat are available in the store, including a dedicated version with soft-close hinges [ clik HERE ]. We’ve also created a video showcasing the features of this sanitary fixture and toilet seat.
Cesame Erice Series (Rectangular Toilet Seats / Unusual Hinge Distances)
The Erice series is the most rectangular produced by Cesame. We’ve previously discussed sanitary fixtures of this shape in “Rectangular/square sanitaryware and replacement of toilet seats” Here too, the Sicilian master ceramists created a unique form! The sides of the fixture widen at a slight angle, proportional to narrowing immediately afterward, giving it a very distinctive geometric effect. All toilet seats dedicated to the Erice pan are always available at the following links: white, champagne, daino, Cesame mink (brown), and Siam blue.
We have started to review some of Cesame‘s main series.
